responsible design
The changes we make today transform the way we live tomorrow. That’s why we’re committing to more responsible
materials, sustainable sourcing and quality-tested products. The path to a better world starts at home.
climate
We’re measuring our impact on the environment and
transitioning to more responsible materials wherever possible.
fsc®-certified wood & paper
Since 2008, we’ve partnered with the Forest Stewardship
Council® (FSC) to offer FSC-certified collections.
Recognized by the Sustainable Furnishings Council as a
Wood Furniture Top Scorer, we source from responsibly
managed forests, with a goal to achieve 60% FSC-certified
furniture by 2027. In addition, we print all our catalogs and
shopping bags on 100% FSC-certified paper, helping to
reduce our impact and contribute to thriving forests.
standard 100 by oeko-tex®
certified textiles
Our textiles are tested to national standards to
ensure the highest-quality products, and
STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® labeled
upholstery and textiles take it even further.
These textiles have passed safety tests for
the presence of harmful substances, so they
are better for you and your home.
certified organic cotton
Organic cotton is grown without chemicals or pesticides.
Compared to conventional cotton, it can reduce CO2 by
46%, energy consumption by 62% and irrigated water
consumption by 90%. We’re committed to growing our
use of organic: Around 90% of our current cotton home
textiles utilize certified organic cotton. 98% of our
cotton bedding is certified organic.
green distribution centers
We’re reducing the environmental impact
of our operations. The Green Building
Initiative awarded our Romeoville, Illinois,
distribution center Three Green Globes
Certification for demonstrating leadership
in environmental efficiency. At our Tracy
location in California, we installed 100,000
square feet of solar panels, moving the
building toward carbon-neutral operations.
community
We’re accountable to our community of associates,
customers and the people who make our products.
living well
We’re designing for the health of your home,
your family, and the world beyond it.
greenguard gold certified
Cleaner air starts with what’s in your home.
GREENGUARD Gold Certification means furniture
has been rigorously tested for over 10,000
chemicals and emissions to ensure the lowest levels
of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) released.
We’re proud to offer an extensive selection of
GREENGUARD Gold Certified furniture across
Crate & Kids, from cribs and changing tables to
dressers, desks & more—so the rooms where your
children sleep and play are as safe as possible.
clean kitchen
Fewer chemicals and less plastic are better for
your home, your family and the planet. Materials
like glass and stainless steel won’t react with
food or break down into micro-particles over
time. Our organic cotton is grown without
pesticides, supporting both ecosystem health
and ethical farming. And our plant-based
cleaners use surfactants derived from crops like
corn and coconut that break down naturally. No
synthetic solvents, no lingering residue.
circular economy
We’re committed to keeping materials in use and out
of landfills for good. In 2025 alone we recycled over
15,000 pounds of textiles, the equivalent of 800
sofas kept out of landfills for a full year and 190,000
kilograms of CO₂e avoided—roughly the equivalent
of powering 26 homes for a year.
Responsibly Designed Furniture & Earth-Friendly Textiles
Outfit your home with responsibly designed furniture and sustainable accents to create an eco-friendly living space. Environmentally-conscious furnishings come in a range of styles that suit your design preferences, from contemporary to mid-century modern. In the living room, opt for a sustainable sofa made with FSC-certified wood and organic upholstery fabric. A solid wood tv stand, coffee table or bookshelf serves as a natural complement to a sustainable GREENGUARD sofa. Once you've designed your lounge area, bring an eco-friendly touch to other rooms as well; consider a sustainable desk for the home office or a sustainable dining table in your eating area as furniture choices that are both practical and green.
Understanding Responsible Design Certifications
If you're looking to update bedding, linens or upholstery with a more sustainable option, consider choosing responsibly designed products and furniture certified to meet specific standards. Organic Cotton growing methods contribute to cleaner soil and water, while OEKO-TEX textiles and fabrics are certified to be free of over 350 substances. Pair with a sustainable bed frame made of responsibly-sourced wood to complete the setup. For children's rooms, GREENGUARD Gold kids' furniture is screened to reduce emissions in the home and provide better air quality in little ones' rooms. What's more, all of our kids' bedding options are made with organic cotton, making the choice between sustainability and style easy. Don't forget about your outdoor spaces as well; think sustainable patio furniture and outdoor dining sets made with FSC-certified teak, so you can enjoy the great outdoors while also protecting it with choices from responsibly managed forests. Whatever your decorating style, sustainable furniture is the socially responsible choice for every home.
